Those who are planning to go to the Springbok vs Wallabies Rugby Championship test at Loftus Versfeld on 29 September 2012 can take advantage of the Park and Ride service being offered by Park and Ride SA for this first time at this stadium.
Park and Ride has been extended to Loftus Versfeld for the Springbok vs Wallabies Rugby Championship test on 29 September 2012. The service operates between large shopping centres and the stadium. Tickets for Park & Ride can be bought online through TicketPros as part of the booking for the match. Sports fans select the shopping centre that's most convenient for them and the Park & Ride ticket includes a drink at one of the partner restaurants.
Park & Ride buses take fans to the stadium entrance from where they are guided into the stadium by security personnel. These security guards also guide them back after the match and take care of any disorientated passengers.
The Park & Ride service ensures that sports fans avoid traffic and parking difficulties and it keeps inebriated sports fans off the roads. The benefits of the service are widespread and ensure that the general public have less traffic congestion and greater safety while attending sports matches. The cost is also competitive with paying for parking close to the match – for example Park & Ride to Loftus costs R140 from Johannesburg and R120 from Pretoria. Shopping centres used as pick up points include Menlyn Park, Centurion Mall, Cresta Shopping Centre, EastRand Mall, Clearwater Mall and Cedar Square.
To quote the Loftus announcement for the Springbok match on 29th September, "Park and Ride services will be available from various points to aid in traffic congestion, frustration regarding parking and most importantly to contribute to a hassle free experience for the whole family."
