The Vodacom Bulls will be looking to make it six wins on the trot when they meet a desperate Sharks side in Durban on Saturday.
The Bulls have picked up 23 points from a possible 25 since returning from tour, and they are now massive favourites to top the South African Conference. They do have some tough fixtures to come though, not least this clash with the Sharks, but they must go in confident given the type of dominance they have shown in their last four matches. The fact that they are playing away may be negated by the Sharks having to return home from Perth and unlike the home team the Bulls don’t have any fresh injury concerns. The Bulls have won two from five on the road with the Kings their only local opponents being one of the victories.
The Sharks broke a five match losing streak with victory over the Force in their final tour match and they return to Durban where they have won three matches from five. In their last home match they lost 6-12 to the Cheetahs in wet conditions. The side has generally struggled on attack this season and while they have scored 11 tries in five home matches 10 of these came in one game against the Rebels. They continue to be dogged by injuries.
Head to Head
The Sharks beat the Bulls 32-10 in Durban last season but the Bulls had won the previous three clashes on the road including that memorable 2007 final. Surprisingly perhaps there have been 20 tries scored in the last five matches hosted by the Sharks so if the weather is decent we may get an entertaining match.
A quick look at the betting suggests the bookmakers are struggling to separate the sides. On current form the Bulls would have to be a good bet, but Durban is never an easy place to take the points and the Sharks will fight hard as for them every game from here on in is basically a must win.
Had this been the first match of the season the Sharks would have gone into it as firm favourites, but the Bulls have gone about their business in a typically professional fashion while the Sharks have shown signs of brilliance but generally let themselves down.
We can’t look past an away victory here and fancy the Bulls to gradually get control of this match resulting in a victory of somewhere between 1 to 12 points.
