The Blue Bulls Company would like to extend their condolences with the passing of former Northern Transvaal wing Robert John Twigge, who passed away on 1 July 2017. He was 80 years old.
Robert was born on 24 July 1936 in Windsorton in the Northern Cape. He endured a tough childhood and spent some time in a boarding establishment.
Despite his circumstances, he was an all round sportsman excelling in the 440m, boxing, cricket and later in life, golf and lawn bowls.
His rugby pedigree was identified while still in primary school and he received his Junior Springbok callup in 1958 where he played eight matches on the 1959 Junior Springbok tour of South America.
He represented Eastern Transvaal (Valke) in seven matches before making Pretoria his home, playing for Northern Transvaal between 1959-1962.
He became Springbok no. 349 in 1960 where he played a solitary test against Scotland.
He is survived by his wife, Shelagh, and daughter, Rhona.
