You have heard about flying pigs and cows jumping over the moon, but goal-kicking props? Jan-Frederick Enslin certainly showed on Friday that there is such a phenomenon when he not only scored a hat-trick of tries, but a hat-trick of conversions as well.
The Vodacom Blue Bulls Under-19 prop has started kicking for goal at primary school at Grey in Port Elizabeth and continued with that in secondary school at Grey High.
In fact, when arriving at the Vodacom Blue Bulls, the goal-kicking prop was joined by another, Andrew Beerwinkel, who joined from Boland, but up to date, only Enslin had an opportunity to kick for poles in a match.
This happened on Friday against the SWD Eagles at Loftus B.
Enslin opened his scoring feat with a try in the 22nd minute and another in the 26th minute. Both conversions – and an earlier one following a try by Vian Riekert – were missed by Dalton Kannemeyer (flyhalf) and when Burger Odendaal scored, Enslin stepped up in his role as goal kicker.
He missed with that attempt, but not when converting his own try just after half time. He also converted the tries of Jacques van Staden (41st min) and Jerome Bastick (53rd min) before being replaced after 58 minutes.
By that time he contributed 15 points via tries and six more via the boot to give him a match contribution of 21 points.
