He was named in the first Springbok squad of the year earlier in the week amid some comments that his play in 2014 did not warrant it, but on Friday night Jan Serfontein delivered big time.
The Vodacom Bulls inside centre delivered a commanding performance against the Brumbies in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash at Loftus Versfeld and showed why Springbok Coach Heyneke Meyer wants Serfontein in his squad.
The 21 year old scored a good try following good support play, created some others and kicked and ran with great efficiency against last year’s finalists. His defensive performances also got a thumbs-up from all concerned.
Serfontein has started in all 13 matches this season (25 in all) and scored three tries so far, bringing his points tally to 25 (5 tries).
Fast Fact: He was named Player of the Tournament at the IRB Junior World Champs in 2012 following the Junior Springboks' sublime form in the tournament, culminating in a decisive try for his team in the final which South Africa won against NZ U20.
