Wynand Olivier

Wynand Olivier

It was hardly a month ago when everyone was calling for Wynand Olivier to be dropped and feared that his place in the Bok squad was in jeopardy.
Saturday, against the Melbourne Rebels, Olivier silenced all his critics. Not only did he score his first hat-trick in Super Rugby, he also smashed the Rebels to pieces with his solid defensive efforts.

It took Olivier a while in 2011 to show what he is capable of on attack. He was already one of the best defenders in the side with a huge tackle count, but unnatural handling errors prevented him for playing to his full potential

Till two weeks ago. He scored a brace against the Chiefs and now three against the Rebels.

For his first of the weekend, he ran almost 40 metres after chasing well after a Morné Steyn chip kick. His second came from great support play. First, his bullet like pass put Bjorn Basson in space and he was in support again to finish of a great try. For his third, Olivier ran a great line on an inside pass from Steyn and he could dive over under the poles.
