One of the hardest men in South African rugby, "The Silent Assassin" has played in two World Cups (1995 and 1999) and was South Africa's player of the year in 1995. A broken leg and serious knee injury saw Ruben sit out most of the 1997 and 1998 seasons, but he came back to represent South Africa again last year. Revered as a fearsome tackler throughout the world, Kruger's mere presence on the field is an inspiration to his teammates. The Northern Bulls won their only game of last year's Super 12 series after his return from injury.
