Vodacom Blue Bulls ready for Free State challenge
19 October 2011

The Vodacom Blue Bulls u.19 side knows only too well what a difficult opponent the Free State can be when they take on each other at Loftus Versfeld on Friday in a semi-final clash in the Absa u.19 competition.

Matches between the two sides have been on a knife’s edge and high drama is expected at 15h00 when they take on each other for the third time this year.

The visitors are one of only two sides who could beat the Blue Bulls junior side this year, edging them 16-13 in Bloemfontein. In that match, they got the lead early and hung on, despite a late fight back by the Blue Bulls.

In their match at Loftus Versfeld in July this year, it was another close affair, with the home side winning 30-25. Coach Paul Anthony was able to pick a very strong side for this encounter and indicated that their preparations went according to plan.

“We saw in both those matches against them how difficult they are to break down. There is no chance of us underestimating them this time around either,” Anthony said.

“The pressures of a semi-final could be either equalling matters or it could be the difference between the sides. We need to apply that pressure and will have to make sure we can handle it ourselves.”
