There was massive disappointment for the Vodacom Blue Bulls u.19 side in Johannesburg on Saturday when they lost 20-19 in the final of the Absa u.19 Cup.
The Blue Bulls side took a commanding 13-3 lead after a try by Wiaan Liebenberg, but the home side dominated the last half hour of play and scored the winning try with seven minutes to go.
The visitors had a 6-3 lead at the break and were leading till the 63th minute, when the Lions scored their third and match-winning try.
The Blue Bulls tried to work themselves into a field position for fly half Tony Jantjies to attempt a dropped goal, but failed to do so and the Lions were celebrating.
William Small-Smith, captain of the Blue Bulls, congratulated the Golden Lions on their win.
“It was the little things that cost us in this final. We made too many little mistakes and that eventually wore us down. Well done to the Lions, who played very well and came hard at us.”
