There are rugby weekends and then there are Rugby Weekends. This past weekend proved its worth with some triumphs, upsets, runaways and down falls. There was action in every game and the ultimate was seeing South Africa thrash Australia 31-8 at Loftus. The Sharks only just beat the Bulls, the Toyota Free State Cheetahs overcame the GWK Griquas who have been looking strong this season and the Golden Lions proved their worth against DHL Western Province.
The predictions for the South Africa vs. Australia game were correct and the boys in Green and Gold did us proud. A win against Australia is always a celebration. The Voltbet Team had a great time at the Platinum Suite and shared the experience with some key clients and partners. The atmosphere from the Voltbet Platinum Suite to the Castle Beer Garden was ecstatic and the beautiful betting concierges made it even better. Offering some great prizes and mingling with Springbok Supporters through predict-the-score was a highlight of the day and the pictures prove so. This weekend we all look to the New Zealand match, even though New Zealand have won the Castle Rugby Championships the South African team will still want to prove a point against the No 1 team in the world. SA and NZ have faced each other 84 times, with SA winning 34 of these games. They are a tough competitor and probably one of the meanest. But we have shown our worth and won’t be lying down in this game.
The game between the Vodacom Blue Bulls and The Sharks lived up to the expectations, a win that each side would have to fight for. The weather was dismal with both teams needing to reshuffle and do last minute game plan changes. Unfortunately the Sharks got lucky in the second half with a winning try from Keegan Daniel.
Friday evening, the Vodacom Blue Bulls take on DHL Western Province in a mouth-watering tie at Loftus. The Blue Bulls are rooted at the bottom of the table and this is a must win match for the Pretoria side. The Vodacom Blue Bulls have a good record at home against Western Province and are able to call on three of their Springbok teammates, Dean Greyling, Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson for this clash. The Vodacom Blue Bulls should benefit greatly from the return of Basson especially. The odds look good for the Vodacom Blue Bulls to put in a good performance and win this clash. The Bulls are known for coming back late into the season and a semifinal outcome is not far off. They will need to give it their all and play a full eighty minutes of high impact, good rugby.
We look forward to the weekend and the many edge-of-the-seat moments that it will bring.
