Live legend chat: Johan Heunis
12 February 2009 (08:30)
The legendary Northern Transvaal fullback Johan Heunis will be available for a "live chat" on Thursday between 12:00 and 12:30.
You are invited to bombard Johan with all kinds of rugby questions, but please keep them as crisp and clear as possible in order for him to answer as many questions as possible.
Brief biography:
Johan played in 110 matches for Northern Transvaal between 1981 and 1989 and what makes this achievement even more remarkable was that he was in the starting XV on 109 occasions.
He played in 14 tests for South Africa and in 24 matches in all for the Springboks during the isolation years.
His test debut came in the first test against the All Blacks on the 1981 tour and his last against the World XV which toured South Africa in 1989.
Johan also captained Northern Transvaal on occasion and played for the Blue Bulls in every position among the backs apart from scrumhalf.
To this day he is considered one of South Africa's finest fullbacks and probably the best number 15 Northern Transvaal ever had.
In his last season (1989) he set up a Currie Cup record of 268 points. No mean feat considering that he played mush of his rugby during the reign of kicking king Naas Botha.
Heunis' record stands to this day!
