Schoeman and Botha shine in under 19 victory

The Vodacom Blue Bulls' under 19 team beat the Boland Cavaliers 53-8 at Loftus Versfeld on Friday afternoon.

The under 19's are slowly but surely reaching their full potential and although the Cavaliers aren't the best side in the competition, the Bulls' basics were outstanding and a under of individuals are starting to live up to their reputations.

The Bulls were leading 15-3 at the break but they stepped up the pace in the last 35 minutes to score six great tries.

The forwards slaughtered the Cavaliers in the scrums, lineouts and tight loose while Marnus Schoeman was superb on the ground.

Schoeman score a hat-trick in the second half when he finished off three magnificent driving mauls but what was even more awe-inspiring was his ability to make turnovers in the contact situation.

The halfback-pairing of Danie Faasen and Marnitz Boshoff did a great job but the brightest star amongst the backs was the inside centre Chris Botha.

Botha grabbed his opportunity with both hands and did magnificent work throughout the 70 minutes on attack as well as on defence.

His centre partner Gerhard van den Heever had a more quiet afternoon but it will be fair to say that he was very effective for someone who was selected in a new position. Yondela Stampu's positional play at fullback was excellent and Deon Helberg will be satisfied with his display in the number 14-jersey.

Vodacom Blue Bulls u19's: Tries: Marnus Schoeman (3), Cornell Hess, Chris Botha, Deon Helberg, Nico van Zyl, Marnitz Boshoff. Conversions: Marnitz Boshoff (5). Penalty: Marnitz Boshoff.

Boland Cavaliers u19's: Try: Gordon Anderson. Penalty: Cliffie Hodgson.
