Roodt, who was selected for the Emerging Boks in 2008, says he wants to start building his career and that is why he is retiring from rugby.
"If think it is the best interest of my career to start working as soon as possible. I am going to work in Johannesburg for Vhumbanani Projects as a junior draughtsman."
Roodt is a product of Hoërskool Lichtenburg in the North West where he played Craven Week rugby for the Leopards in 2004 and 2005. He played for the SA Schools team in 2005 and in 2006 he was selected for the Blue Bulls' under 21 team.
He made his Vodacom Cup for the Blue Bulls debut in 2007 and has ever since represented the Union on 19 occasions.
