Waterkloof and HTS John Vorster can carry flag for Blue Bulls at international sports festival

The second Barloword Toyota International Sports Festival will be held from 1st - 5th April at Waterkloof Hoërskool in conjunction with Willem Strauss Promotions. More than 1 000 participants will compete in rugby, netball, hockey and tennis.

According to Mr Leon de Beer, acting headmaster of Waterkloof Hoërskool, it is 'n privilege to host this tournament where schools from England and Namibia will also participate. "We look forward to welcoming sportsmen and women from all over South Africa and internationally to Pretoria and specifically to Waterkloof Hoërskool" said Mr de Beer.

Tygerberg Hoërskool from the Western Cape will be in action in the main game against hosts Waterkloof on Thursday 1 April. The hosts will also take on the might of Paarl Gim on Saturday 3 April.

According to sport promoter, Willem Strauss, this year’s tournament promises to be bigger and better than last year. "More than 15 000 spectators are expected and schools from each province in South Africa will be present." said Strauss. Two schools from England, Hereford College (rugby and netball) and Truro College will also be participating. Last year Truro College won the Daily Mail Cup at Twickenham, a competition in which more than 600 schools in England participated.

National coaches like Carin Strauss (netball) and John-Laffnie de Jager (tennis) will attend the tournament.

According to tournament director, Paul Roelofse, the infrastructure at Waterkloof is well-equipped for hosting this tournament, possibly the largest of its kind in South Africa.
