Blue Bulls women to redeem for sluggish start

© Gallo ImagesThe Blue Bulls women’s rugby team is determined to do better in their second match of the inter-provincial competition against the Golden Lions coming Saturday.

The Blue Bulls lost 25-8 against the Free State in their opening match, played at Heidedal in Bloemfontein last month, trailing 12-3 at the break.

According to manager, Martin Moshaba, a heavy field contributed to their sluggish start.

“We played in a virtual pool at Clive Solomon Stadium in Bloemfontein. The field became heavy for our players as the game progressed. We scored first points from a penalty which we could not add on until end of first half. In the second half we managed to score an unconverted try where as the hosts kept the score ticking to reach 25 points. We lost with a learning team with many inexperienced and recalled formally retired players. The opportunity was good for the new players as they won a place in the team and overcame their fears inside a Blue Bulls jersey.”

It now back to the drawing board.

“The coach has identified arrears to work on and will in earnest start with the work on Monday. Our next game is against Lions at home on Saturday April 10th at Loftus B-Field. We hope to pull out of the sluggish start,” Moshaba said.

2. I wonder on what basis Blue Bull woman select or develop their players. I have a 13 year old daughter at school who loves playing rugby, but unfortunately she is not allowed to play rugby with the boys. It also appears that there is no school in the area that have rugby just for girls. How can rugby for woman be developed at school level if this is the case?

Any suggestions how my daughter may be helped? do we have private clubs that give girls the opportunity to learn and play?
