Vodacom Blue Bulls u.19 aiming for number one spot
15 September 2010 (14:15)
The Vodacom Blue Bulls u.19 side is looking for a strong finish in the final stretch of Absa’s u.19 competition and to end the regular season at number one.
They are second on the log at the moment and coach, Paul Anthony, said a victory over the Lions on the weekend will take the side a long way in pushing for the top spot.
Anthony’s side have scored the most tries (50), most points (368) and conceded the fewest points (152) so far this season, but the coach has warned that all can come undone if they underestimate the Lions, who are currently in fifth spot on the log, with four wins in eight matches.
“We need to up our effort now. We have established good momentum, but can still improve in many areas. The Lions will fall out of contention if they lose, so will be playing for their lives,” the coach said.
Anthony made one forced change to his starting team that won convincingly against the Cheethas last weekend, with points machine, Pieter van der Walt sidelined through a thigh injury. He will be replaced by Pieter Oosthuizen, who comes off the bench.
A replacement for Oosthuizen will be named later.
The Blue Bulls (36 points) face third-placed Leopards (30) and log leaders Western Province (39) in their remaining fixtures.
