The Blue Bulls Rugby Union, in co-operation with Willem Strauss Promotions, will host a 7's tournament for women at Grootvlei Sport Academy, north of Pretoria, on Saturday, 20 November and at Loftus on Sunday, 21 November.
The national team of Botswana and two teams from Namibia have already accepted invitations to participate with the provincial teams of the Blue Bulls, Limpopo Blue Bulls, Blue Bulls Development and club teams, Tukkies and Richards Bay.
According to sport promoter Willem Strauss, the Olympic status for 7's rugby has already provided a positive injection for ladies rugby.
"Potential participation in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics is now a possibility for ladies 7's players and we hope that this tournament will contribute to the development of ladies rugby in South Africa" said Strauss.
The development officer of woman's rugby at the Blue Bulls, Mr Martin Mashaba, is extremely excited about the upcoming tournament and he foresees a grand future for women's rugby all over the world.
Mr Andre Both, who is the general manager of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, says this is a great opportunity to expand the women's game and he is very positive about the upcoming tournament.
"This is a great initiative and we support it wholeheartedly. It is the perfect platform for the ladies to test themselves against international opponents and I am sure it will make a huge contribution towards the advancement of the game."
