The Vodacom Blue Bulls strengthened their position in the top four of the Vodacom Cup's North Section with a convincing 49-10 win over the Down Touch Griffons in Welkom on Friday.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls team opened their 2014 Vodacom Cup campaign with a narrow loss to GWK Griquas at Loftus B on Saturday. The visitors won 26-24. Griquas lead 17-13 at the break. Both teams scored two tries.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls have named their team to participate in the inaugural World Club 7s to be played at Twickenham, London on 17 and 18 August. The team include amongst others, Junior Springboks captain Ruan Steenkamp, former Tygerberg High School sevens ace Riaan Warner and Vodacom Cup try scoring machine Courtnall Skosan.

Regular Super Rugby stalwart Jacques Potgieter will make a rare appearence in the Vodacom Cup when he plays for the Blue Bulls in their Northern Section fixture against Valke at Hugenote High School in Springs on Saturday.

The Vodacom Bulls team to play the Toyota Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday has been bolstered by the return of two experienced campaigners, with Akona Ndungane and Flip van der Merwe back in the starting line-up.

The SARU national selectors have called up UP-Tuks lock Jannes Kirsten as replacement for Marvin Orie who will miss the three-match tour of the SA Under-20 training squad to Argentina because of injury.

The Blue Bulls have named their side to play the Pumas in a Vodacom Cup match on Saturday. Super Rugby stalwart, Wilhelm Steenkamp, will captain the side for the match what will be played at Loftus Versfeld B.

Half the teams in the North Section of the Vodacom Cup kicked the season off with a full house of five log points, but in the South the Sharks XV are on their own at the top of the log.

All eyes will be on Polokwane on Saturday afternoon when the Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls make their Vodacom Cup debut.

It can be seen as a Junior Springboks reunion, but it is in fact the Blue Bulls Vodacup side that will face GWK Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday in the opening weekend of the Vodacom Cup.
