Player of the Week – Akona Ndungane
08 August 2011

He already proved himself to be one of the bravest players in the Vodacom Blue Bulls camp after returning to the top levels of the game following two horrendous leg breaks.

On Saturday the 30 year old winger again showed why it was worth all the pain and patience of rehabilitation with an outstanding performance against the Golden Lions.

Ndungane was solid as a rock under the high ball, ran a beautiful line to set up a try for Stefan Watermeyer and scored a fantastic one himself to bring his side back in the game.

His try in the right hand corner, where he threw himself at the line with no fear of his own well-being, again showed the commitment that made this former World Cup Springbok one of the best Bulls players of his generation.

Any young Blue Bulls player looking for role models need to look no further than Ndungane. Despite his achievements and fame, Ndungane remains a humble man, but put him in a blue jersey and he becomes a fiercely competitive rugby player.
