Player of the Week – Pierre Spies
20 May 2013

It was a fitting way to celebrate his 100th match for the Vodacom Bulls, but Pierre Spies did much more in this match than just score a try. The popular Bulls No 8 and captain showed all his skills in a match that sometimes had the purists jumping up and down with joy and at times had them grinding their teeth.

Not so for Spies though. The Bulls leader showed the way for his troops with a comforting display to Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. Spies ran with great purpose and often created space for his teammates on his outside, he scored a great try and was an overall nuisance at ruck time.

He also contributed well in the line-outs and was devastating on defence, where he often covered at crucial times and managed to stop numerous Highlanders attacks before they could develop in dangerous ones.

And yes, he played in his 100th match. What a boykie!
