Marnus Schoeman
13 September 2010

The fetcher-flanker of the Blue Bulls u.21-side, Marnus Schoeman, is currently one of the top try scorers in SA Rugby’s competitions.

The 21 year old player scored two tries against the Free State in the Blue Bulls narrow win in Bloemfontein last Saturday and has moved his try scoring tally to ten tries for the competition.

This put his second to Western Province winger, Danie Poolman (12) only, a remarkable performance for a fetcher.

“I am just trying to be everywhere on the field. The tries comes from that,” Schoeman said.

“Only one of those came from a rolling maul. With the others I am just lucky to be at the right place at the right time.”

Schoeman, who started his provincial career at the Blue Bulls at u.16 level already, believe he does not want to be a fetcher only.

“The laws have changed a bit, so even the fetcher can run with the ball a bit,” he smiled.

His favourite amongst the ten tries came earlier in the season against the Lions at Coca Cola Park.

“I broke away from a maul and had to beat one of two opponents before I could go over in the corner. It was a great feeling when I dotted down,” he said.
