Tiger Mangweni

The Vodacom Blue Bulls' fullback Tiger Mangweni set aside a few minutes of his time to chat with

Mangweni is currently competing with Zane Kirchner and TC Losper for the Vodacom Bulls' number 15-jersey and is contracted by the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd till the end of 2009.

Mangweni learned his rugby at Zikwaba Primary in the rural areas of East London where he played scrumhalf for most of the time. At Ntsonkotha High School he started to play fullback and in 1997 he was selected for Border's under 17 Academy team.

In 1999 he played for Border's under 19 Academy-team and after school he was one of the stars of the Border under 19 as well as under 21 teams.

Between 2001 and 2004 he played in 67 matches for the Border Bulldogs and in 2005 he made his Super 12 debut with the Stormers. After his stint with the Stormers he joined Griquas and played for them till the end of 2007.

What was the highlight of your career so far?

When I was selected for the SA "A"-team at the end of 2004. Rudy Joubert was our coach and we toured Argentinia.

Christian Cullen

Where does your nickname "Tiger" comes from?

My boxing coach said I fight like Tony "Tiger" Lopez

Who had the biggest influence on your career?

My dad, Mabofu Mangweni. He played centre for the clubs in the location in East London. He was a very competitive player.

What are your goals for 2008?

I want to be part of Currie Cup squad. I want more game time this year.

Which teams are the Blue Bulls biggest rivals in the Vodacom Cup?

Griquas, WP and the Leopards.

What is your favourite stadium?

I like Loftus Versfeld.

Who is your best friend at the Bulls?

Akona Ndungane. We've known each other since 1997 when we played together for the Border u17 team.

What is your favourite food?

I like an African salad - loose pap with sour milk.

Do you play golf?

No, but I do like putt-putt.

Any hobbies other than rugby?

Listening to music and watching sport on TV.
