Juandré Kruger

The Vodacom Blue Bulls' new recruit Juandré Kruger continues to impress at lock after coach Frans Ludeke gave him an opportunity earlier this year in the ABSA Currie Cup.

Kruger set aside a few minutes of his time and answered a few quick questions from bluebulls.co.za

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born on 6 September 1985 in Cape Town and stayed there until I moved to Pretoria at the end of 2007.

What Primary school did you attend?
Laerskool Eversdal in Durbanville

High School?
Paul Roos Gymnasium

Who was your hero as a schoolboy?
I fancied Bob Skinstad's playing style when I was younger, but as I was increasingly used in the lineouts I developed a lot of respect for Victor Matfield's abilities.

What team did you support as a kid?
Growing up in the Cape I was a WP supporter.

Who had the biggest influence on your career as a youngster?
Definitely my dad - Johan Kruger. He has always backed me 200 percent.

Did you play Craven Week rugby at school?
No, I matriculated at Paul Roos in 2003 but was not selected for the WP Craven Week team. However, I played for WP' under 20 team when I was in matric.

I enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch where I studied B.Com Management Accounting.

I think it was in 2005 when I was first selected as a number 7 flanker for Maties 1.

Did you play for WP in 2007?
Yes, I made my provincial debut in 2007 for WP and played in six matches for them.

What position do you prefer? Lock, flank or number 8?
It really doesn't matter. I just want to play. I just adjust my playing style whenever I am used at number 4, 5, 7 or 8.

Who would you rate as your toughest opponent?
In the lineouts – definitely Victor Matfield.

Do you have any hobbies?
I like playing golf and I enjoy waterskiing. Every two years I go with my family to ski in Austria and that is always special.

What is your favourite TV show?
Prison Break

Until when are you contracted by the Blue Bulls?
The end of October 2008.

What are your goals for 2008?
I would like to help the Bulls to win the Currie Cup.
