Jaco Engels

Vodacom Blue Bulls prop Jaco Engels scored a sensational try against the Natal Sharks at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

The replacement-prop ran a great angle from around 40 meters out, broke the first line of defence and then easily brushed off the Sharks fly half, Patrick Lambie, after moving the ball from his right hand to his left.

He rounded off the movement with a dive next to the posts.

“It was my best try ever,” Engels said afterwards.

“I did score a couple of tries on a regular basis when I played at the Leopards, but none gave me the satisfaction of this one.”

According to Engels, he was determined not to be stopped, once he breached the first line of defence.

“To be honest, I didn’t think Lambie was to keen to tackle me either as I am sure I had a very determined look on my face,” he laughed.

Engels, who played Craven Week as a centre, certainly ran like one, but also proved his worth in the tight exchanges.
