The Vodacom Bulls sweeped the floor with the Stormers at Securicor Loftus on Saturday and in so doing not only qualified for the semi-finals for the first time, but also rewrote the record books.
The 75-14 drubbing of the Capetonians was the Bulls biggest victory ever in the competition and also the Stormers biggest defeat. It was also the fourth biggest winning margin in the history of the competition.
The nine tries scored also equals the record, while Morné Steyn’s 35 points are also an improvement on Louis Koen’s 29 of two seasons ago. The nine conversions are also a record. He has already converted 21 tries this year, another record.
The Bulls’ astonishing try scoring record amongst the backs also had fans going crazy. The previous record for tries in a season by a player was five, but Bryan Habana (9), Akona Ndungane (7) and Ettienne Botha (6), have all improved the record this year.
The 36 tries in a season by the team also equals the record, with at least one more game left in the season.
On Saturday Victor Matfield also became the first Bull to appear in 50 games for the franchise.
