With so many Sprinboks away, do the Vodacom Blue Bulls have a realistic chance of winning this year's ABSA Currie Cup?
Yes, we did it in 2003
No, I don't believe in miracles

The Vodacom Bulls thank their fans for their great support during the 2007 Vodacom Super 14 season.

Wassie or Derick to captain Bulls
Posted on Monday, June 25, 2007 - 16:48
Johan Wasserman or Derick KuŁn will captain the Vodacom Blue Bulls in the absence of Wikus van Heerden who together with Hilton Lobberts and Wayne Julies will be resprent South Africa in the two Tri Nations internationals in Australasia.

The successful candidate will be named on Tuesday and take up his new duties on Saturday when the Bulls take on Griquas in Kimberley.

But Bulls coach Pote Human will have to make a fourth forced change to the starting line-up after it was confirmed on Monday that Francois van Schouwenburg, the senior lock in die Currie Cup squad, broke his finger in the match against the Valke at Loftus Versfeld.

Posted by mosselbaaibul (mossel Bay) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 09:23

More Vrinne

Nee wat gee my toets reekse, minimum drie wedstryde teen mekaar...

Posted by BLOU_RIL (Sharks=Chokers,Some Of Their Fans=Idiots!) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 10:43
Aiken, ja jy is reg.

Finally after a hectic week I have a little time to air some views, create discussions or just get ignored.

Since the Super 14 finished I have felt that each week the sport of rugby has left a bad taste in my mouth. I have leveled criticism at players, refs and Bok Management. Today I focus on our coaching staff. On Saturday I, along with millions of other rugby viewers, watched with amazement at a number of decisions that made me wonder what criteria are needed to be part of the Springbok Coaching Staff. During the Super 14 we got to see new standards set in South African Rugby by both the Bulls and Sharks franchises and expected this excellence to carry through to the Springboks, but unfortunately it looks like it hasnít happened and rather delayed the unraveling of the team.

Below are a few points where the Coaches need to take responsibility for.
- Francois Steynís missed catch. In this instance Francois has been turned from hero to villain, but why? We all know he is a confidence player and if something goes wrong he tends to crumble. So why does a coach send on the youngster into a position the Coach never tried him in the warm-ups, when the opposition is 5 meters from the try line. A good coach would have moved Percy or Ruan in at 10 and brought on Francois / Claassens to fill the gap left by the injured Butch.
- Wannenbergís Yellow Card. Again the player was brought on during a pressure phase of the game, rather than when the Boks were out their 22. This gives the player time to settle and warm up. The coach also knew that the player had a tendency of infringing as he had done the exact same thing when he came on against Manu Samoa.
- The Springbok scrum being driven back week after week. Again how can the Springboks scrums go backwards when throughout the Super 14 the Bulls and the Sharks walked over opposition scrums? The answer is best answered by a question; when last did a Western Province scrum push over their opposition? Gert Smal is the forward coach, but had very little success with his forwards at provincial level.
- Backlines inability to make anything from go forward ball. Here again South African teams showed a lot of innovation and positive play during Super 14, what has happened in the last 5 games. Other than Habanaís sniping breaks, nothing. Who is to blame here? It canít be the backline coach.
- Off the field antics highlight the in-effiencies of the coaches even more. Other than his constant wrangling with SARU, why doesnít Jake point out problem areas in the opposition teams? The opposition teams are quite happy to highlight BJís illegal tackling techniques. All this does is keeps the refs attention on BJ while the Kiwi props avoid binding on contact. Why isnít Jake pointing out Richie McCawís blatant cheating at breakdowns, the Aussies backline that is always offside to make up for their lack of speed? I cannot answer this question, but it definitely would make the refs focus on the opposition teams a bit more instead of always picking on the Boks.

I can bring up a number of other points, but this already takes up a lot of space on the blog.

Hoekom?

Try time: Very sensible points! The only thing that would work is if ex-Springboks manage, select and coach the game. I cannot understand why this simple principle is not understood!!!! Therefore it can only be politics. Two weeks ago the black gentleman who assists me in my garden said: "There is no difference between crime and politics, the latter is just seemingly legal"!!!!

mosselbaaibul i think we are all starting to see the mess sport in this country is. i agree with you and my current sentiment is i support one team and the boks second. i also wonder why the bulls and sharks lost less players to injury during the s14 than the springboks have since the final. what are they doing in the training camps? poor management.

try time : Die probleem wat jy uitwys is korrek !

blou gentle, sport is a big tool to unite people, but i agree with you, the leaders and decision makers in this country have used it to break the country. we have the psl mess up, the cricket fiasco and one must never forget the boks. south africa's motto used to be "united we stand" now it is "divided we create the chaos to steal"

He will be replaced by CJ van der Linde.

Posted by BITE*ME (SHARK TANK) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 11:34
Posted by Ligblou Baron (Pretoria) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 11:42
Hoekom is jy so stupid!!!!
Posted by Ligblou Baron (Pretoria) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 11:47
Posted by BITE*ME (SHARK TANK) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 11:58
Nee herrie oom ligblou - los die man!
Posted by ronnie (johannesburg) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 12:00
Posted by ronnie (johannesburg) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 12:03
Ha Ha ha - oooo daai klomp ausies is lekker dikbek - julle moet net sien hoe kots en kerm hulle oor die B bokspan - en dit lyk my hulle is vrek bang die span wen hul boonop - DIT SAL WRAGTAG GOED WEES!!!
Posted by ronnie (johannesburg) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 12:16

verlies gely agv swak bywoning.
Daar is selfs ondersteuners in NZ wat hul kaartjie geld
terugeis !!

Posted by goeters (Blou vir altyd!!) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 15:27

Gaan gou weer bietjie krieket kyk.

Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 17:46
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 18:12
Sjoe, darem gewen. Dankie Kallis.

Ek sal bydra tot 'n Gibbs retirement fund.
Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 19:31
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 19:33

Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 19:42
Ja,TB.Dit is mos daai mentaliteit van ek moet gekies word omdat ek gekleurd is!!So kry ek n duck of n 100 wat maak dit saak!!
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 19:45

Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 19:52
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 20:02
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 20:29

Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 21:04
Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 21:05
Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 21:21

Posted by Texas_Bul (Dallas) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 21:27

Posted by Bergbok (Gauetng) on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 21:38

Sydney - The Australian Rugby Union admitted defeat on Wednesday in its row with South Africa over the Springboks' refusal to field a full-strength team in their remaining Tri-Nations Tests.

Angry ARU officials had raised the prospect of scrapping the Wallabies' Test against the Springboks on July 7 in protest at the South African Rugby Union's (Saru's) decision to protect their top stars ahead of the World Cup later this year.

The South Africans say they suffered nine injuries in the first two Tri-Nations Tests against Australia and New Zealand and cannot risk their remaining stars ahead of the World Cup.

While fuming over the decision, the Australians were forced to accept the South Africans' stance after receiving official advice from the Saru justifying the policy on medical grounds.

The ARU said the South Africans had cited a sports scientist who concluded that if the Springboks' top uninjured players toured New Zealand and Australia "they might as well not bother going to the World Cup."

ARU chairperson Peter McGrath said the Australians had expressed their anger and "sense of betrayal" to their South African counterparts.

"To send a less than top-line squad is insulting, not only to the spirit of the Tri-Nations competition, but more importantly the Australian and South African rugby faithful, both here and abroad," McGrath said.

"The Saru was more than happy to cash in on the quality of the Wallabies squad we sent this month to South Africa. This has obviously not been reciprocated."

The July 7 Test at Sydney's Olympic Stadium will be the final home Test for veteran Wallabies George Gregan and Stephen Larkham.

SA Rugby and The Sharks can today confirm that John Smit, the Springbok and Sharks hooker and captain, has accepted an offer to play for the French Club Cleremont-Ferrand during the 2008/09 seasons.

"After 10 wonderful years with the Natal Sharks I decided to sign a two year contract with French club Cleremont-Ferrand, commencing in 2008 until June 2009," confirmed John. "Representing the Springboks since my debut in 2000 and also playing for my beloved Sharks was a real dream come true for me and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them. However, the time has come to make a change and move on in my professional career.

"I want to thank the Natal Sharks and SA Rugby for the incredible way they have cared, managed and treated me and I now look forward to return to South Africa with some new experiences."

"We would like to wish John and his family all the very best in their new chapter and life in France," said Andy Marinos, Manager of National Teams. "John has been an outstanding ambassador for his country, franchise and province throughout his playing career. It is never easy to see a player of his stature and experience leaving our shores, but we would like to wish him and his family all the very best for the future.

"On behalf of everyone at SA Rugby, I want to thank John for the exemplary, dignified and respectful manner in which he has represented and managed to captain his country. SA Rugby was consulted throughout the process we respect his decision."

Rudolf Straeuli, Commercial Manager of The Sharks, added that, "John is an outstanding individual, an inspirational leader and an incredible player. He always leads by example and his humble and calm manner had a great influence on players around him. On behalf of everyone at The Sharks, I want to thank him for his massive contribution to our rugby and indeed rugby in general in the country. We wish him and his family well and he will be sorely missed."

Joost van der Westhuizen (born 20 February 1971) is a former South African rugby union footballer who was the Springboks' first choice scrum-half in the late 1990s. He was capped 89 times for the Springboks and scored 38 tries. He is the most capped Springbok of all time and holds the record for the most test tries by a South African player. His career test try tally of 38, makes him the scrum-half with the most tries in Test Rugby. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest half-backs of all time.

15 June 2007,
John Smit might be the most capped Springbok captain but compared to Springbok hookers like James Dalton, Uli Schmidt and Robert Cockrell, he is rated as an average test player by the South African crowd.
