Habana waits on X-rays
Posted on Monday, February 04, 2008 - 11:21
The Vodacom Bulls' IRB Player of the Year, Bryan Habana, is waiting for his X-rays to know what the extent of his rib injury is going to be.

Habana injured his rib against the Lions in Windhoek on Saturday but the team doctor Tommie Smook is optimistic that the prolific try scorer will be up and running in a few days.

"We have to wait for the X-rays to be absolutely sure, but I think his ribs are only bruised and not broken."

Smook said that he was very happy with the way Danie Rossouw, Gurthrö Steenkamp and Heini Adams came through the game against the Lions, but Akona Ndungane's injury was swollen after the match and he was not able to train with his teammates at Loftus on Monday.

Chiliboy Ralepelle as well as Rayno Gerber started their rehabilitation on Monday morning and there is a possibility that they might be fit for the match against the Stormers.

Richard Bands is working hard to regain full fitness and Smook said Bakkies Botha's rehabilitation is going very well.

Botha's Springbok teammate Pierre Spies will know by the end of the week when he will be able to play again.

Spies' appointment with the specialist is scheduled for 8 February but the big loose forward is already training with the team and everybody at the Bulls believe he will be competing in the Super 14 sooner rather than later.

If Spies is only going to the specialist on Friday, does that mean he has already had his blood test done and sent away to the lab?

Because if the blood test is only done ON Friday, then it will take another 3 working days or so before the result is known.

That will mean that he probably won't know in time to do contact training in preperation for the Stormers game.

Can someone at the Bulls clarify this for us? Will the RESULTS of his blood test be known on Friday, or will the blood only be DRAWN on Friday and then sent to the lab for analysis?

Or are we talking about some kind of X-Ray test here that simply scans the lungs for any clots? In which case he should know immediately.

Info please? Because this will determine whether Pierre will be able to play against the Stormers or not.

Shannow,

don't think Spies will play the stormers. As far as I understand he can't play for 2 weeks after he stopped the medication. that will clear him only for the sharks game.

but it will be nice to get clarification from the bulls regarding this.

I agree they need to shed some light on this. We have been given the run around on Pierre the last couple of months. I also do not think he will be ready for the stormers but please when, how and why will be nice to know......
