The MTN Lions made a convincing plea for their re-entrance to Super Rugby when they overpowered the Blue Bulls 50-12 in a friendly match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.
The visitors scored four tries before the break, racing to a 31-0 lead.
Their forwards was in total control and the Blue Bulls were outplayed in the scrums, with the Lions using their domination in this area to great effect.
Stokkies Hanekom scored withing two minutes, with Marnitz Boshoff converting.
Dominating the advantage line, the prop Julian Redelinghuys was barged over seven minutes later, with Boshoff adding the conversion and a penalty.
Hendrik Roodt scored and with five minutes left Deon van Rensburg scored from a an intercept to finish off with a long range sprint. Boshoff added the conversion to give the Lions a 31-0 lead going into the break.
The second half followed the same pattern.
Flanker Derick Minnie scoring the first try after the break and Anthony Volmink went outside and then cut to the inside to score under the posts, with Boshoff converting.
The Bulls via Jacques du Plessis, with Tony Jantjies converting the five-pointer.
Guy Cronje scored the Lions' seventh try, with Lionel Cronje converting.
Ruan Snyman found a gap to score two minutes from time with Jantjies' effort going wide.
