2015 COMMUNITY CUP

Pretoria Police Rugby Club was the Blue Bulls representative at this year’s Community Cup Tournament held at Rustenburg Impala Club over the Easter weekend 2-6 April. One of the main aims of this tournament is to revive club rugby. Report by Johanna de Vos.

The 20 best rugby clubs/teams from all over South Africa were evenly divided into 4 pools. So each team played 4 games.
After the pool stages earlier this year Pretoria Police were the only unbeaten team: Beat Noordelikes 40-17; beat Bloemfontein Crusaders 31-26; beat College Rovers 20-19 and beat Raiders 54-31.

Only the top two teams from each pool were invited. All eight teams were based at the Pilansberg resort.

Thursday the play-offs set off to a thrilling start as the top non-university teams went head to head for the historic Gold Cup.
The day’s play was tightly contested as the teams gave everything to book a place in the semi-finals.

Ek wonder waar le die probleem, by die spelers of skrum afrigter? Ek dink laas genoemde.

yes i also watched the game again last night. My view is, and Pierre Spie said this afterwards, we allowed there attackers too much space. Our support of ball carriers is not good enough and that is part of the reason why the Lions looked better on attack and got the momentum in the last 25 minutes.

But I must say we missed Lappies dearly on Saturday and will see improvement if he gets back,

On the positive side Pierre Spies took a few turnovers and I think he had a good one. Grant Hattingh will improve in the weeks to come, that I am sure of.

But I think, what really made the difference was the last 25 minutes when there new front row and Faf de Klerck took the field. Akker vd Merwe kept us busy when he came on. they raised the bar in a way that we couldn't really match in terms of intensity. Not in the scrums so much as in the general play and break downs. The last kick off was just the cherry on the cake - our focus was not in the game.
