Carlton Cup league wrap week 10

Two Carlton games were played at home over the weekend and one friendly away in Rustenburg, reports Johanna de Vos. Friday evening Naka Bulls put up a good fight when they played Centurion away. They are starting to improve. This time they lost (7-29). When they met in the first round in the Moot the difference was much bigger (5-42).

Centurion is still sitting pretty in the third spot on the log. They gave their regular fly half Jean Grobler a well needed rest. He is still under-21. Steven Moir who originates from Natal and who is always on the bench, got his well-deserved chance. His contribution in the game was nine points.

Saturday at TuksRugby Stadium Tuks flatted TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) by running them into the ground and scoring a massive 14 tries. The record is still the 16 tries Tuks scored against Naka Bulls in their first game of the season. TUT were run ragged and had no answer to this onslaught.

Kefentse Mahlo who started his career with the Blue Bulls u/19 in 2012 as scrum half and also played Vodacom Cup this year, is now the new 2015 record holder in club rugby with the five tries scored in a single game. The previous record was four tries in a game by Gerrit Engelbrecht also from Tuks. Kefentse is an all-rounder and can play any position from scrummy to fullback and make a success of it. He is a wonderful player and also a wonderful person.

Tuks moved into first position on the log but have played one game more the Pretoria Police. When comparing the two teams on the log Tuks nearly scored double the tries than Police and also nearly double the points. The students are figuratively and literally running away with all the tries they are scoring in every game.

Rustenburg Impala were invited into the Carlton Competition this year, but when ‘push came to shove’, four of the seven clubs withdrew from playing against them. Only the top three clubs were willing. So far Centurion beat Impala 35-26, Tuks also beat Impala 36-22, but Saturday Pretoria Police lost to Impala with only a single point 26-27. During the 2015 Community Cup Competition Police lost to Impala in the Quarter Finals with two points 28-30.

Coming Saturday the two teams meet again and Rustenburg Impala will travel to Groenkloof. This time there will be fire-works. Police will have an axe to grind. A game not to be missed.

Also an exciting game expected at Centurion when Tuks take on the home team. Last time the two met in the first round Tuks were victorious 26-17. Centurion will want to turn the tables on Tuks this time.

  1. gravatar Honibal says:
