Carlton Week wrap Week 15

The Carlton League Rugby is nearing its end with the participating clubs having to play only a few games more. Twelve games are to be played by each Carlton team.
The top three teams Tuks, Police and Centurion are already sure of going through to the semi-finals. Position number four on the log is still up for grabs.

Three games were played Saturday. Tuks were victorious against Harlequins, Naka Bulls gave the Eagles from the East a good hiding and Police took Centurion “prisoner”, writes Johanna de Vos.

UP-Tuks ran in eleven tries and converted them all against Harlequins 77-32. Converting all that many tries is a record so far this year. Tuks like scoring eleven tries. This is their third time. First time was on a Tuesday against TUT, Jacques Rossouw converted eight, and four days later he converted ten against the Eagles.

What made this record so interesting was that the kicker, Tian Nel, is still only twenty years old and played in his first Carlton game. He surely made his mark in this prestigious competition.

Naka Bulls are picking up speed and also have they eyes on the fourth spot. In a very hard game they beat the visitors, the Eages 50-22. Half time their bonus point was already secure with five tries scored (31-5). The Eagles eventually got their fourth try right at the end after a fierce battle on the try line. The Eagles were unsuccessful with several kicks to the poles.

What is interesting this year is the Argentinian Ramiro Fernander Alzogaray (loose forward) in the Naka Bulls team and the Indian Nishalen Govender in the Eagles team. Ramiro is only twenty years old and intends staying for three years. He scored the last try Saturday for Naka. In his first game he got a red card for fighting because he could not understand Afrikaans. Nishalen is probably the first Indian playing Carlton. He is a real live wire and plays eight man.

Nothing came of what was supposed to have been a close encounter in the game between Police and Centurion. The latter’s inside centre Stanley Twiname could not play and was definitely sorely missed. Bobbies scored six tries and the visitors only one converted try. Final score 37-7. Ruan van Loo has taken over Police’s kicking duties with Dillon Laubscher still out injured.
