Vodacom Bulls players will swop the green grass of Loftus Versfeld for the court and trade their boots for a set of wheels for the Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball Challenge Celebrity Exhibition match at Vodacom World in Midrand on Saturday.
The Light Blues have selected a strong contingent that includes towering locks Marvin Orie and Irne Herbst, while the fleet-footed Jamba Ulengo and Travis Ismaiel will provide some much-needed skills.
Orie and Ulengo have been revelations this season and will be looking to emulate the vigour they displayed in a young and exciting Bulls side.
The players will get to experience the rough and tumble sport first-hand and will be competing against Springbok players Trevor Nyakane and Adriaan Strauss.
SuperSport pundit Xola Ntshinga and Bafana Bafana legend Marks Maponyane will also have an opportunity to show off their skills on the court.
Spectators will be entertained by Vodacom Bulls mascot Bulletjie and the Vodacom Bulls Babes ahead of the action-packed day of basketball.
The Celebrity Exhibition match will be the curtain-raiser for the Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball Challenge Final.
On Friday North-West Province will take on the Eastern Cape while Kwa-Zulu Natal will play against Gauteng for a spot in the final.
The respective winners will face each other in Saturday’s Vodacom Wheelchair Basketball Challenge Final which comes with R100 000 in prize money.
Wheelchair basketball is not for the faint at heart, as the players play with reckless abandon and the ball is shifted from goal to goal within seconds.
Although the players are in wheelchairs, the rules do not change much from the conventional game.
The sport is played on the same size court and basket height and players display some fantastic skill when taking shots.
A team has 24 seconds from taking possession of the ball to complete its attempt on the basket and players are required to throw or dribble the ball after two pushes of the wheel.
Friday’s matches will start from 14:45 at Vodacom World with the Celebrity Exhibition match taking place at 14:00 on Saturday ahead of the main match.
Vodacom is proud to be a sponsor of wheelchair basketball for the past 15 years.

    liza gqobeka

Lizo Pumzile Gqoboka started his rugby career as a no 8 after he left school and joined Queensburgh Sports Club in 2009 before he moved to Durban Collegians Sports Club. The 24 year old joined the Eastern Province Kings as a prop in 2011 playing for their Under 21 side and a year later for their Vodacom Cup side in 2012.

The 117kg prop made his senior debut against the Border Bulldogs as a replacement and eventually earned his first start against the Free State Cheetahs a fortnight later. Lizo has since made 36 appearances for the Kings at senior level and scored two tries.

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has said that they have identified him along with Western Province’s Nizaam Carr and Seabelo Senatla as three promising young players and would like to expose them to the Springbok ethos while also having a look at what they can do in training

The Vodacom Bulls have capitalised on the growing uncertainty surrounding the EP Kings as they signed impressive prop Lizo Gqoboka for the next few years to bolster their Super Rugby squad.

Gqoboka gave notice at the Kings after repeated non-payment of salaries at the franchise, and the Bulls swooped in to offer him a new home for the foreseeable future.

And there may well be more news in the next 48 hours as the Bulls are still after the signatures of three other EP Kings players – loose forwards Tim Agaba and Thembelani Bholi and winger Luther Obi. Some big decisions will be made as to their futures soon

Dai agtste man agaba het dan volgens beeld by wp geteken en dink daar is nog i paar ouens van die kings wat ek sal koop in die agterlyn veral bq meer diepte kry ek dink ook ons kort i goeie back up op 15 vir wane kriel seer kry of op senter speel!
  5. gravatar Theo says:
Almal rave so oor Eddie Jones.
  6. gravatar Blue Bull says:
Gqoboka impressed me in the 3 games I saw him play during the CC. Very good loosehead scrummer and strong ball carrier.

Will be a pitty if we do not utilise Fourie du Preez.
  7. Louis was goeie talent en ja ons ht Luther gekoop is bly daaroor nt sowel Liza
  8. gravatar Theo says:
  9. gravatar marisa says:
Eks bly oor Obi.
  10. gravatar Bloukaap says:
Wat het van Neethling Fouché geword? SA skole kaptein so 3 jaar terug wat deur Bulle gekontrakteer was. Hy en Schoeman dink ek val in dieslefde ouderdoms groep.
  11. gravatar franscois says:
Altwee is baie goed maar agaba dai ou het talent toe ek sy game teen die sharks gesien het het ek gese hy sal enige dag in m span wees bo enige agsteman by die bulle so hy moet kom!!!
  12. gravatar Bloukaap says:

Is hy regtig so goed?
  14. gravatar Bloukaap says:
    Theo

Ek weet nie hoe goed Agaba regtig is nie. Ek is net bevrees ons is so bang vir die transfromasie spook dat ons nou swart spelers druk om punte te score. aan die ander kant weet ek ook nie wat ons wil maak met so baie eerste keuse spelers vd OP terwyl hulle by Bulle hoogstens back up spelers sal wees nie.

Daar is youtube video van TimAgaba (gewoonlik maak hul agente so 'n opnamel) maar daar speel hy Varsity Cup en so bietjie CC.

Bloukaap.
Nyakane,Gqoboka,Greylingh, Schoeman P.,vd Merwe,Kruger,vd.

Please can someone tell me when we are going to start buying players like the other franchises are or are we just going to battle along with juniors coming through the ranks ?
