Blue Bulls extend condolences to Jonah Lomu's family
The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd, the Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls want to extend condolences to Jonah Lomu's family following the sudden and devastating news of his passing.

"Jonah scored some great tries at Loftus Versfeld back in 1995 and since then had a special place in our hearts, as well as that of world rugby. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the Lomu family and to New Zealand Rugby.

Lomu will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest players the game has seen and one of those rare superstar players that transcended rugby. We should also take time to remember and celebrate his wonderful career and achievements. Rest in Peace, Jonah," reads the statement.

    R.I.P. Jonah Lomu

What an awesome player, RIP Jonah Lomu. I was privileged to see you play through out your career. A true legend of the game.

Nollis Marais indicated that he will be able to finalize his squad this week after looking at various options to fill up his squad.

On the previous thread about Neethling Fouche: Fouche got injured in the beginning of this season after the Ikeys game and never played again in 2015. he was moved from tighthead to loosehead at the Bulls.

IMHO, I don't think the Bulls scrum-coaching was on par and should not only be laid before the feet of the players we contracted. If you look at the WP u 21 scrum last year against a Bulls pack with Wilco Louw on the tight head, then it is evident that we did not scrum well. This year Wilco Louw suddenly came to light in the WP senior team, after the Bulls decided to rather hold on to Werner Kruger.

Is daar nuwe spelers.

They say that the Stormers have, in a short period of time, learned a lot from Eddie Jones: they can now side step and take a gap when they see one!

The Stormers at keast communicated this proces with the public. BBM did not even lift a blind on who was on the short list, but Nollis.

Time will tell wether the Bulls are doing the rught thing to throw in an unexoerienced ciaxh at the deep end. I see that Gert Smal says he doesn't want to appoint someone without at least 6 years experience at Super rugby level.

I think we will see a shocker in terms of the big contrast between CC ajd Suoerrugby next year and it will be a case of sink or swim for Nollis and the team.

We have a good experienced international front row with backup in Gqokoka and Schoeman and Mellet. Bandise Maku, Jaco and Callie Visagie. We just need to pick up the scrum coaching.

In the lock deoartment is where oir worries will be. We have seen WP thump us twice in the line outs this season, despite our new approach. So I am not confident that this aspect of our tight phases has been sorted out at all. I want to take nothing away from RG and Orie and Jenkins, as well as Irne Herbst and probabky Nicholas van Rensburg, but they are very inexperienced locks. The katter has been demited and underpkayed this season at the Bulls and I think it was a mistake. Grant Hattingh will boost the nr. 5 position as he had a very good season this year but he will join us probably ilat the end of February.

The loosies will be a new first season in Superrugby for them, with Roelof Smit, Ruan Steenkamp and Jannes Kirsten stepping in at 6 and 7 for Deon Stegman. I think the Bulls lack a tough and tall nr. 7 and will have to make up the lack in meters somewhere. Lappies can't be keft our, he is a very good player and okays hard rugby for 80 minutes. At nr. 8 we have Hanro and Botha, with , IMHO, the former as the better one of the two. Arno has nit really come to light after his lobg injury yet and 2016 will be a cross road situation for him.

In the back department we will have plenty of midfielders to choose from, and I suspect we will also see the departure of 1 or 2 players in.this department. You cannot hold on to Jan Serfontein, Dries Swanepoel, Dan Kriel, Jessie Kriel, Burger Odendaal forever. We are well covered at wing and will have two very good full backs in Galant and Kriel.

We will have the best nr. 10 in SA, but his backup will not win us the trophy.

Our biggest head ache in the backs could be at nr. 9 if Hougie doesn't sign up again. Ivan van Zyl did OK in the CC while Page had a very impressive Superrugby campaign. Piet van Zyl was injured this year. but even before that failed to convince.

@ BLUE BULL. Ek sien dat Hougaardt by die Kings gaan uithelp wees as hy nie by die 7's betrokke is nie.
Nee o pok.

yes I read about Hougie, but seems like it is a SA rugby decision - just think it will totally demolish Hougie's 15 man rugby career. That will leave us with Rudi Paige and the rest.

John Micthell will always do well - but he is a short term change agent - the Cape of Good Hope is also the Cape of great Storms. province will imo do better by appointing Dobson and let Gert Smal do the the mentoring - within a year or so he will be an experienced super rugby coach. South Africa need to develop local coaches to become international in 3-4 years time - we are behind New Zealand in this regard. But, you cannot develop coaches without International mentors. This is where I am very concerned about the Bulls strategy for 2016, apart form obvious experienced short falls in player positions.

Mitchell is a very difficult customer and struggle to work with people- he has a bad track record in this regard. I read his book a year ago. he is a staunch rugby skills developer and strategist, have very high standards, but his inability to work with players got him fired there and then. If he moves down to Cape Town, I think it will be a short term enterprize.

Whoever will over down to Cape Town, will have a bit of a slow start behind the other teams - we have learned our lesson in 2007/8. the sharks struggled this year as well. so yes - money can buy a lot of stuff, but you need to have proper time to plan this competition well.

I am not sure if the Stormers are proffessional enough for him in this regard.

    Nitronic

I think he will be contracted by SA Rugby next season as all 7 players are. In that case he will not have much of a say where he can play unless SA Rugby and the Bulls will strike a deal.

Hougie has been with us since 2008. 7 years is a milestone for today's players so I won't be surprised if he decides on a new path. But I agree with you - He could never really fit into that old school pattern.
  14. gravatar nitronic says:
Bluebull agree. Its no surprise before the CC there were rumours of Hougie going to UK or France. But will be upset if he does join the Kings. Like I said Nollis brought something different out of him and will be sad to see him go. Massive potential but sadly wasted, and it hurts to say even P Divvy got more out of him than Ludeke and Heyneke
