SA Rugby joins calls to Take on Racism

The South African rugby fraternity has thrown its weight behind the Anti-Racism Week with all Vodacom Super Rugby teams in action locally this weekend and will wear yellow armbands to show their support for the campaign.

The initiative stems from the sporadic and unfortunate incidents of racism in South Africa, with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation joining forces with 80 civil society organisations to form the Anti-Racism Network of South Africa (ARNSA).

“We’ve been approached by ARNSA to participate in the Anti-Racism Week, from 14 March, culminating on Human Rights Day on 21 March, and as a sport who prides itself on having the power to unite our nation, we’ve gladly accepted,” said SA Rugby President, Mr Oregan Hoskins.

“SA Rugby fully embraces this initiative from ARNSA, and we firmly believe that the unity of the Rainbow Nation can and will overtake and eradicate the stubborn fog of racism.

“We remain committed to non-racial sport and embrace diversity and racial reconciliation. We strongly condemn racism in all forms and wish to emphasise that it has no place in rugby and our beautiful country.”

Three Vodacom Super Rugby matches are scheduled to take place this weekend in South Africa. The local action kicks off with two derbies, on Friday evening in Pretoria, where the Vodacom Bulls host the Cell C Sharks (19h00), and on Saturday in Johannesburg, where the Emirates Lions will host the Toyota Cheetahs.

The final match of the weekend is in Cape Town between the DHL Stormers and the Brumbies on Saturday (19h15).

Earlier on Saturday, the Southern Kings kick off their New Zealand tour with a match against the Crusaders in Christchurch (08h35).

  3. gravatar Blue Bull says:
Problem with SA rugby is that there is so much off the radar energy going into running a franchise, that the real focus should be on helping our franchises to keep their top players from overseas contracts.

Or one of these days we all have to say good bye to the Bulls and start supporting a European club.

Kyk net hoe leeg was Loftus verlede week.

Chris Cloete ek dink.

  6. gravatar Blue Bull says:
Bad news about Lappies, but this just goes to show that money vs traditionalist loyalty the former always wins...nowadays. As the saying goes, if you want loyalty, get a dog...

But we need to focus on tonight's clash at Loftus. The Sharks bench looks far more superior than the Bulls. with Nollis not even playing Hencus van Wyk against the Rebels - you know he is only there to fill the gap if the tight head gets injured. How the Bulls managed to bring these guys through the junior ranks I don't know. But hey look yards apart from their peer group players in other provinces.

Woop Woop!!! Mag die beste span wen. Eerlikwaar sal ek bitter teleurgesteld wees as my boyz lose.

P.S. Jimmy as Sharkies dalk in die hekkie induik, kan jy dalk Paint it Black speel van Rolling Stones. Dankie!!

Laastens, Vis jy sit seker nie in 'n losie nie?
  9. I can not more than agree with "METADOR" - we need a bench front row and two competent scrumhalves urgently and in addition two bench locks!!

Piet is pathetic and does not belong on a Super Rugby pitch ......our Springbok scrumhalf is also another question...........!

Are we (Blue Bulls Management) now too stupid to realize what we have in young talent especially loose forwards - did we not learn from "CHASING AWAY CJ VAD DER LINDE" who has made his name internationally with Ireland? This was the shortsighted vision of Heyneke Meyer and his follower .... Ludeke! The Blue Bulls must get rid of the Heyneke Meyer`s influence and his assistant coach, and follow the advice of Marais who is trying his best to get the Bulls on the road again!

SUPPORT MARAIS AT ALL COST AND START PAYING THE PLAYERS WHAT THEY SHOULD EARN - Marais inspired his limited resources to develop now ..........and has proved his abilities as a coach with the cups he won at under 19 and 20! Just LEARN HOW JOHAN ACKERMAN HAS DEVELOPED HIS LIMITED RESOURCES once unknown, to achieve an excellent record with his team!!
