Centurion pull rabbit out of the bag - Week One CARLTON League
Playing away Centurion pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the bag and surprised one and all with a win over Police (2016 ASSUPOL winners) to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the Community Cup later this year.
They ran in three tries to one for a well deserved lead (22-8) at half time.
My man of the match is Centurion’s fly half Gaybrin Smith who contributed 14 points was the thorn in Bobbies side, writes Johanna de Vos. He scored a monster of a kick just before the break from about 62 meters according to the referee and also an impressive intercept try from about 60 meters just after break. This really hit Bobbies hard.
Police got over the shock and answered with 2 tries. They struggled in the line-outs and had to play catch-up rugby the whole time. Not playing together as a team, and decision making were problematic said the coach after their loss.
Naka Bulls had an easy win at home in the Moot over Harlequins. Seven tries to one is not to be sneezed at. Hopefully Quins can recover before their match against newcomers Dragons from Pretoria North.
Dragons asked to play at Quins since their home grounds at a high school are not available Saturday.
The games between Tuks and Rustenburg Impala were cancelled Thursday and Saturday.
The reason then seemed to have been that Tuks were under the impression that Impala by not fielding five teams (3 senior and 2 junior) were in breach of the qualifying standards for League A. The matter will be attended to by the BBRU and is thus sub judice/pending.
The games between Tuks and Naka Bulls have been moved to Friday evening because of Saturday’s Super game at Loftus.
