Hanro Liebenberg made Vodacom Bulls history when head coach Nollis Marais named the loose forward as captain against the Highlanders earlier this year.
The announcement allowed 21 year old Liebenberg to take his place in the history books as the youngest player to have ever captained the Vodacom Bulls at Vodacom Super Rugby level, a title held by former Bulls stalwart Chris le Roux since 2002.
Liebenberg made his Super Rugby debut off the bench against the Hurricanes at Loftus in 2015 and has since gone on to earn 17 caps for the Pretoria franchise.
Liebenberg is no stranger to leadership as he followed in his older brother, Wiaan’s footsteps when he captained the Junior Springboks to a bronze medal in the 2015 World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy. The Liebenberg brothers also hold the mantle of being the only set of brothers to both have captained the Junior Springboks.
Liebenberg made the move to Loftus Versfeld in 2014 after finishing his schooling at HTS Drostdy and has since gone on to represent the union at U19, Vodacom Cup, Currie Cup Qualifiers, Currie Cup and Super Rugby level.
