The Vodacom Blue Bulls scored nine tries including a hat-trick to wing Sibahle Maxwane in their 63-26 (halftime 35-14) trouncing of the Hino Valke in their SuperSport Rugby Challenge match at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon.

No 8 Boom Prinsloo, who recently joined the Blue Bulls from the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, made an immediate impact as he scored from the back of a dominant scrum.

Prinsloo’s try shocked the Valke into action as they scored two quick tries through wingers Etienne Taljaard and Maphutha Dolo.

It was all about the home team after Dolo’s five-pointer, with abrasive flank Shaun Adendorff powering his way over the try-line, while flyhalf Tony Jantjies’ conversion leveled the scores at 14 apiece after 20 minutes.

The Blue Bulls continued to use their dominance at scrum time and were awarded two penalty tries. According to World Rugby’s new regulation, a conversion need not be taken and thus the men from Pretoria walked away with 14 points.

Prinsloo was on the receiving end of yet another dominant scrum as he scored his team’s fifth try after the halftime siren. Jantjies conversion handed the Blue Bulls a 35-14 lead at the break.

The Blue Bulls started the second half in the worst possible fashion when flank Freddy Ngoza was yellow carded shortly after the restart.

The Valke made full use of their extra man when flank Dian Koen scored a minute later, but that is where their advantage ended as the home team scored two quick tries to Maxwane.

Maxwane showed a good turn of pace down the left-hand touchline in the 59th minute to bag his hat-trick. Jantjies continued his flawless effort with the boot to land the conversion.

The Valke secured their four-try bonus point when prop Andries Schutte scored an unconverted try with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Replacement centre, Franco Naude, who made a barnstorming break earlier in the second half, got his name on the scoresheet thanks to a powerful hand-off. Jantjies’ seventh conversion proved to be the final points of the match as the Vodacom Blue Bulls recorded a 63-26 win over the Hino Valke.
