Roelof Smit is a name well known by the supporters of the Vodacom Bulls as the openside flank has filled the void left by one of Loftus Versfeld favourite son’s, Deon Stegmann.

Born in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, Smit moved to Pretoria to finish his schooling at Hoërskool Waterkloof where he represented the Blue Bulls in the Craven Week. Smit has since gone onto representing the Vodacom Bulls and Blue Bulls at every level, from Under-19 to Super Rugby.

The 24 year old is currently on the sidelines after tearing his pectoral muscle which provided the perfect opportunity to chat to him about his time in the Under-19 and Under-21 Bross (rugby houses) as well as his memories of playing for FNB UP-Tuks ahead of the University of Pretoria’s FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International final against FNB Maties next Monday.
