Vodacom Blue Bulls coach, Pote Human, named a familiar outfit for the SuperSport Rugby Challenge quarterfinal match against the Cell C Sharks XV in Cape Town on Sunday.
With the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament resumed, Human named most of the players that contested the early part of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge and also included Manie Libbok, who has since returned from his Junior Springboks duties in Georgia.
Libbok will play fullback, with Tinus de Beer at flyhalf. The only Vodacom Bulls regular is Dries Swanepoel, who recently returned from injury.
Human was happy that the squad will have some fluency in team play and momentum, despite losing out to the Xerox Golden Lions XV in Soweto last weekend.
“We should never have lost that game, but that is all part of the learning curve. We are where we wanted to be - in the play-offs of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge. Knock-out matches have their own demands and pressures, so we will treat this match as a stand-alone. We need to execute what we want to do, respect the ball and play to our strengths. The Sharks XV showed how tough they are to break down defensively, so we need to be clinical in our attack.”
The team is: Manie Libbok, Dewald Naude, Dries Swanepoel, JT Jackson, Divan Rossouw, Tinus de Beer, Ivan van Zyl, Clyde Davids, Abongile Nonkontwana (c), Marco van Staden, Aston Fortuin, Ruben van Heerden, Neethling Fouche, Alandre van Rooyen, Njabulo Gumede. Replacements: Jan-Henning Campher, Andrew Beerwinkel, Freddy Ngoza, Roelof Smit, Theo Maree, Joshua Stander, Franco Naude.
